Of the various techniques used to develop canvas transfers, Frances has chosen the photographic process. It provides a quality product and one that is consistent with small edition sizes (her editions range from 200 to 700). The image of one of her original oil paintings, contained in the emulsion of a photographic reproduction, is fused to canvas. An overlay is added to provide protection. Once stretched on stretcher bars, the canvas transfer is ready for painting. Frances personally enhances every one of her canvas transfers with oil paint, painting over key areas and highlights that help to provide depth and color clarity, with the goal of making it difficult to distinguish her transfers from her originals. Her canvas transfers are noted for their rich enhancement--for the amount of detailed painting on each one. |
